You will develop a power point pitch for the The Way Out about a potential employer that they may be able to work with. You will also complete a business canvas model for social entrepreneur (this is a separate, drop box assignment).
Make sure to examine the The Way Out's website and watch any of the video links that have been provided in the background information, in order to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the organization.
You may contact the listed contact person with additional questions. In addition, each of you may also contact Valerie Beech, the Business Research Librarian, valerie.beech@marquette.edu, if want more background information about the social issues that the social entrepreneur is addressing.
First you need to pick a potential employer, it can be the firm that you work for, if you think it would be a good fit. Secondly, you will try to persuade this selected firm that it is a good idea for them to become involved with the Way Out. You will need to form strategic and persuasive arguments. You do not have to make the actual pitch to the selected firm, but it should be a credible pitch to pursue.
It is important to incorporate ideas associated with social intrapreneurship in strategizing who you should make the pitch to within your selected firm/and what to emphasize. To prepare for this assignment, please read Davis and White's (2016) Social Intrapreneurship which discusses some of the key questions that you need to consider in terms of pitching a social innovation. Also see the article by Briscoe and Gupta's article, for additional persuasive strategies.'
In putting your power point pitch together, you need to address the following questions.
Network Analysis:
Who are the mavens, connectors and salespeople for this idea?
Identify the specific person of the selected firm who would be best person to pitch to. You should select a specific person and/or people, identify their department and contact information who would be interested in selling this issue as well as implementing it.(Very Important Information)
Who/what are the potential obstacles and/or bottlenecks for implementing this idea within the firm?
What are the motivating factors for key players/stakeholders to support this idea?
Framing/Making the Case (or pitch) to the Selected Firm (why they would want to work with the Way Out):
What are the persuasive sources of information about The Way Out and its mission? (you need to discuss at least three strategic benefits)
What is the story that you want to tell? How can you make the story resonate?
What are the key metrics about the Way Out that you should emphasize? Also identify key metrics for your selected firm and society.
Mobilizing Allies:
Whom are the allies within the firm that can be mobilized? (Again, it is important to provide specific information about specific people and departments that would be receptive to this type of social intrapreneurship)
What is the most effective way to do this, given the firm's culture (maximizing the upside/minimizing the risks?
The Way Out is expanding its services to include veterans who also face similar types of challenges in the workplace. Briefly describe if a different approach would be needed for selling this idea, would different departments, contacts be needed? If you can identify the additional (if needed), that would be very helpful. Also briefly discuss how the selling points might vary, in terms of making a pitch for this segment of the workforce.
