You will examine communication, including difficult conversations, dialoguing, and using social media for internal messaging. you will also continue to examine issues involving how to lead through organizational change, including the topics of conflict, the rumor mill, and others. You will also learn about McKinseys 7-S Framework, a model for change.

You will be examining the value in the timing and type of messaging, managing conflict, holding courageous conversations, the value of organizational dialogue, and the impacts of social media on internal communication. This week and in previous weeks, we have also presented the concept of organizations seeking a competitive advantage over other companies. We will talk even more about competitive advantage next week as we consider HRs role in organizational change.

During our lesson of learning about using negotiation in discussions, we covered the value of debates. You were presented four steps that can be taken to frame a discussion as a debate (i.e., separate people from the problem, acknowledge there may be more than one solution, dont simply argue but fix problems, and be constructive).

scenario:

An employee, Joanne, has proposed that her company allow flexible working hours. She believes that better productivity will result if employees are allowed four 10-hour work days, working from home, and changing start and end work hours. She is pushing hard for this change as one way to give the company an advantage over competitors in the market.

Lets hold a debate, you will be agreeing the part of with Joanne and arguing for the value of this change as a competitive advantage. The other person of the debate will argue against this change giving the organization a competitive advantage.
