You will require a DVD to cut up for this assignment. It can be a new or used DVD. Build a simple spectroscope. Place it in front of your phone's camera. Capture a minimum of four (4) different types of light sources (examples: incandescent light, neon light, full moon, reflected sunlight off a bright wall, street light, fluorescent light, LED light, etc.) All four light sources must be a different type meaning they can't all be fluorescent or all LED. Find different ones. You can also use a white computer/laptop screen. Bring up a blank Windows document so the screen is all white and photograph that spectrum with your spectroscope.
You will then writeup a report which will include photographs of the spectra and the original light sources. Ensure that the photos are large, clear and understandable. NEVER POINT THE SPECTROSCOPE AT THE SUN IMPORTANT: Suggestion is to use black paper to build the spectroscope (used on the inside of the spectroscope) which derkens the inside to cut down on extra light. Or try and darken the inside using a black marker. Orient the DVD/CD piece such that the spectrum is spread out horizontally on the phone camera as seen in this image.
