Your case write-up must be 300-500 words in length. Your case write-up should include three paragraphs: (1) Background, (2) Recommendations, and (3) Justification. In the background paragraph, you should summarize, briefly, the question at hand. You should NOT include a copy of my entire statement of the case. Recommendations are very important, but the justification for the recommendations are generally the most important element of your report, in terms of the impact on your grade. You should NOT include a title page; just include identifying information at the top of the first page, or as a header on every page. Facts of the Case: Jane is the Quality control (QC) manager for a manufacturing firm. She is an expert at statistical process control (SPC) and is making an awesome denomination for herself by her competence on the job. For some time, Jane has been aware that a key specification on a part that goes into a very profitable product is too tight i.e parts are being rejected because of failure to meet specifications when the product would have functioned very well with the out-of-spec part, and the customer would have been happy. The design engineer simply specified a tighter specification than was necessary, and no one has caught it before Jane. Jane has not taken any action on this, because she has been waiting until she could figure out how to use her knowledge of the faulty specification to her best advantage. So far, needlessly rejected parts of this type have cost the company about $5,000 since Jane became aware of the problem. David, a QC(Quality Control) inspector working for Jane, has just come into her office and proudly told Jane that he had just noticed that a part is incorrectly specified and that he would like Janes endorsement on a recommendation to loosen the specification. Jane thinks that the part is the one she had been aware of because the part is in David's area of responsibility. What should Jane do now?
