Your problem

Create a realistic problem that demands action (e.g., your company is losing market share, a piece of equipment is causing accidents or inefficiencies, a new technology has been developed that could benefit your organization, the organization and communication within an organization is hindering employees ability to solve problems quickly, your organization is experiencing high levels of employee absenteeism, etc.).You should choose an industry or field that interests you. Begin by briefly researching the tools and processes created or used by that industry or field. Read news sites, magazines, and trade publications. Use your imagination to develop a scenario that necessitates the analysis of your chosen technology or processor internal service. Your organization can be real or it can be fictional, and it can be private or public. Whatever you decide, keep yourself in a junior occupation a job you might have shortly after graduation where it is plausible that you would actually be asked / asking to complete an analytical report. Your organization can be a huge multi-national or a small start-up. It can be a manufacturing company or a public research enterprise. It can be a provincial government or a rural village council. It can be an organization considering a new type of green building or an electrical contractor considering field laptops. It can be a security organization upgrading tools. It can be a maker of snowboards considering a new design or a performance venue considering new kinds of music-related technologies. It can be a health facility struggling to change the physical layout so as to reduce disease transmission among patients. Some examples of projects, in addition to those indicated above, include: The adoption by the city of Oshawa of a fleet of cars or buses that use alternative-fuels.Standardization of software/hardware across your company.Different waste disposal methods (landfill vs. incineration vs. gasification).Pandemic management/prevention by a provincial government.Electronic books replacing hardcopies in post-secondary institutions.A craft that could sustain human life on a trip to or beyond Mars.Using biosolids(a euphemism for human waste) in agriculture .Please note: You do NOT need to choose from the examples provided. These are just ideas to get you thinking. Keep in mind that these ideas are general, and your scenario should be substantially more specific. You are free to be as creative as you want with this. Whatever you choose, I strongly recommend that it is: 1)interesting to you; and/or 2) might be useful in building your portfolio for professional employment. You will get out of this course only what you put in.
