Hi, I hope you are well. I interviewed someone yesterday and I (almost) failed to get him to say anything useful for my research project. This was strange as he had appeared to have really useful background. I was unable to get him to reflect on the issue of inhibitors of spin out companies in the light of his own experiences or provide actual examples. He clearly wanted to talk about what he wanted to and had decided this before the interview and I asked my questions He obviously though there were right and wrong answers and he was telling me what he thought he should say rather than giving me the actual examples I asked for. This meant he did not talk about feedback loops, linkages or ideas, which you know is what my research is about. My attempts to get the conversation onto my research were gently, but firmly, put aside. My question is: Can I just exclude this interview from my sample? He was a great person and I really enjoyed meeting him. However, because I could not get him to answer my questions, the interview did not yield any insights. What should I do? With best wishes Lisa
