Health care is a big industry in the United States, and with the baby boomers born in the late 1940s and 1950s

(after World War II) starting to retire, there will be huge demands for senior health care. The desire is for better technologies to allow grandpa and grandma to live independently in their own homes or apartments longer— and not to use the more expensive options of nursing homes and assisted-living centers. Some technologies include vital-sign monitoring and reporting; motion detectors that sense if somebody has fallen; sensors to turn off the stove that might have been left on; and Internet portals so that family members can check on the health of their loved ones.
