The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System tracks injuries reported from hospital admissions across the United States (Consumer Product Safety Commission 2018). For the data in 2017, we extracted all incidences of hand injuries that referenced punching a wall. There were 1843 such cases. The surveillance system also records some of the properties of the patients, including gender. Of all cases where a person was admitted to a hospital for injuries from punching a wall, 1352 were recorded as male and 491 were recorded as female.

a. Do an appropriate hypothesis test to ask whether the proportion of males among wall-punchers is 50%.

b. Give a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of males among those with wall-punching injuries.
