Needed a book for my intro to management course and grabbed this one mainly 'cause it was discounted, which for a broke student is a huge win. It got here pretty fast too, like maybe two days. The first thing I did when I opened it was jump into Chapter 6, which dealt with motivation – I’ve always thought motivation was just about pushing people to work hard, but this chapter really flipped that idea for me. Reading through it gave me some real “aha” moments about how understanding what drives different people can actually change how a manager leads their team instead of just yelling louder or micromanaging. I liked the way examples were straightforward, kind of like stories you might hear from real managers instead of boring abstract theories. I have to say, it felt like stuff I could actually use in my part-time job where I sometimes have to coordinate a group project—that part made the chapter stand out for me. What’s less awesome, though, was that some parts had a lot of text crammed in, which made my eyes kind of glaze over right after the examples. Maybe if there were more headings or spaces it’d help for skimming later. Still, I feel like this chapter alone made me rethink some basic ideas about motivating people and gave me tips I’m stoked to try out. If you’re starting to learn management stuff or want some practical examples, I’d say it’s worth picking up—especially if you can snag that discount like I did. Kinda bugged the book didn’t add much on newer motivation studies, but impatience aside, this is a pretty good help in understanding what really clicks in a team. Won’t lie, it’s been pretty eye-opening so far.

Exploring Management, 7th Edition, is a fantastic book! It provides clear explanations and is packed with great examples I could easily relate to my own experiences in a managerial role. The blend of theory and practice is superb, making it both informative and practical. The book arrived quickly and was well-packaged, so no worries about damage in transit. I also benefited from a discount thanks to my membership, which was a nice bonus. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in enhancing their management skills!

This book struck a great balance of theory and practice. It’s packed with valuable insights for both new and seasoned managers. Could use a bit more on recent management trends though.
