MINI CASE

The setting is 1978 South Orange, New Jersey. Grace Bowen’s (Carly Schroeder) soccer-crazed family suffers a tragedy with the death of her soccer star brother Johnny (Jesse Lee Soffer). She wants to replace him on the boy’s team but meets resistance from many sources. Gracie persists with her solid determination and wins a place on the team. Time and successful playing help her win the confidence of teammates and coaches.

This sequence is a composite built from scenes in two different parts of the film. A title screen appears between the two parts. Apply the first two questions to Part I. Answer them before viewing Part II.
The Part I sequence begins as Gracie enters the kitchen. Her dad, Brian Bowen (Dermot Mulroney), tells her he is going back to work. This part of the sequence follows Gracie’s discussion with Coach Colasanti (John Doman). He has told her she will play Junior Varsity, not on the regular boy’s team. This scene ends after her dad tells her, “You know what to do.”
