As a student interested in science and engineering, I have looked for experiences that would expand my knowledge base and challenge me at every opportunity. I chose to attend Wheeler High School's Center for Advance Studies in Science, Math and Technology to be exposed to a rigorous STEM curriculum. At Wheeler, I was able to take science classes that weren't offered at any other high school in my county. Some of these classes, such as Introduction to Chemical and Materials Science Engineering, influenced my choice of major when I went to college. I also took many AP classes (Calculus AB/BC, Chemistry, Statistics, Physics 1, Physics C: Mechanics / Electromagnetism).
Wheeler also provided opportunities to conduct my own research which I took advantage of by investigating graphene and its applications. While I was in high school, I took up programming in my free time. I taught myself the Java programming language and used it to create a few gaming apps for Android devices. Soon after, I taught myself important web development languages: HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
