For this essay students will consider the two film franchises which have been the focus of this class and contrast them against one another asking which series has done a better job of addressing the various social issues which we have discussed throughout this semester including racism, sexism and violence.
For this essay you will be required to prepare more than a simple list of similarities and differences, instead paying close attention and giving special consideration to such issues as the metaphorical undercurrents present in both film series, the racial and gender politics at work in each series, and themes such as nationalism and militarism. You can choose any films from the franchises that they wish to use regardless of whether or not they were assigned viewing.
