Write a research paper on the effectiveness of any policy/issue directly related to punishment (ex. death penalty, private jails/prisons, drug courts, pretrial diversionary programs). The body of the paper must include, at a minimum, background information on the issue, discuss pros and cons related to the issue, feasibility of implementing (or continued implementation of) the policy, research on its effectiveness and/or ineffectiveness, and examples of situations (created and/or through research) which show the net societal value of implementing the policy issue. When measuring the net societal value, include information regarding public finances, public safety, victim impact, and offender rehabilitation when they are related to the topic.
