Play a game of “fortunately/unfortunately.” First, finish the sentence: “Fortunately, because of plate tectonics . . . .” Then have a partner finish a different sentence: “Unfortunately, because of plate tectonics . . . .” Go back and forth with your partner until you have a list of ways in which plate tectonics helps people and ways in which it makes life challenging.
