York County, New Jersey decided in late 2020 that it would set up county COVID vaccination sites in large vacant mall stores (Sears, Kmart). These sites were opened at the beginning of 2021 to provide Pfizer and Moderna vaccine shots to county residents. It was expected that some funding for the shots would be received from insurance companies and from the State, but aside from that the County decided to provide the shots for free to everyone to encourage vaccinations to prevent the spread of COVID.
