Employee health care is a highly valued benefit. Many community health care provider organizations are in need of volunteers. 

• Register as a volunteer for your local hospital or medical center, hospice, or free clinic. 

• Contact a nearby organization that helps families dealing with serious illnesses such as the Ronald McDonald House or Target House. Offer assistance with meals, cleaning, or babysitting. 

• Contact your local office of the American Red Cross about volunteer opportunities.

• Search www.healthcarevolunteer.com or another nonprofit organization that helps match volunteers with healthcare organizations that need volunteers.

As you put your service learning experience together, keep a journal of your activities, the time you spend, contact information for people you work with, and your thoughts about the process. When you’re finished, make a presentation to your class about the experience and what you learned. What concepts from Chapter 12 were you able to apply?
