Question:

An interesting Web source contains a collection of Web pages known as “SurfStat” created by Keith Dear when he was at the University of Newcastle in Australia. The address is http://surfstat.anu.edu.au/surfstat-home/surfstat-main.html Go to these pages and note the kinds of pages that are likely to be useful to you in this course.

(I know that this text isn’t in Dear’s list of favorites, but I’m sure that was just an oversight, and so I will forgive him.) Note: I will check all addresses carefully just before this book goes to press, but addresses do change, and it is very possible that an address that I give you will no longer work when you try it. One trick is to shorten the address progressively by deleting elements from the right, trying after each deletion. You may then be able to work your way through a set of links to what you were originally seeking. Or you could do what I just did when I found the old address didn’t work. I entered “surfstat” in a search engine, and the first response was what I wanted. One final trick is to select the name of the file you want (e.g., the file “surfstat-main.html”) and search on that name. Some sites just disappear off the face of the earth, but more commonly they move to a new location.
