How does 5G differ from 4G LTE?

With wireless devices and applications proliferating at astonishing speeds, the need for faster wireless networks with lower latencies grows dramatically. As 4G LTE introduced so many innovations for mobile connections, 5G promises to underpin a whole new generation of services and applications. Fully autonomous vehicles, for instance, must be able to communicate almost instantaneously with the environment and other vehicles to create smart transportation networks that will reduce traffic, prevent accidents, and limit pollution. Doctors hoping to conduct remote surgery using robotic arms can't tolerate that interminable "bouncing ball" that indicates a connection delay.
