According to the octet rule:

(a) Bonds will form between elements separated by eight spaces on the periodic table.

(b) Only atoms with eight valence electrons can form covalent bonds to other atoms.

(c) A sufficient number of bonds will form so as to give all atoms a valence octet of electrons.

(d) None of the atoms in group VIII of the periodic table can form covalent bonds.
