Reeves, who has Down Syndrome, was employed by a supermarket as a bagger for eight years. He received vocational tutoring and individual training from Jewel and a social service agency. Jewel created supervision policies that applied only to Reeves, such as a daily feedback form sent to his parents, his legal guardians, at their request. Reeves was fired after he cursed and insulted a cashier within the earshot of a customer and other employees.
