Develop a computer simulation of an integrate-and dump detector for antipodal base band signaling based on (9.1). Generate AT or -AT randomly by drawing a uniform random number in [0, 1] and comparing it with 1/2. Add to this a Gaussian random variable of zero mean and variance given by (9.5). Compare with a threshold of 0 and increment a counter if an error occurs. Repeat this many times and estimate the error probability as the ratio of the number of errors to the total number of bits simulated. If you want to estimate a bit error probability of 10-3, for example, you will have to simulate at least 10 × 1000 = 10,000 bits. Repeat for several signal to-noise ratios so that you can rough out a bit error probability curve versus Eb/ N0. Compare with theory given in Figure 9.5.
