Researchers recruited 240 children with asthma and 240 controls, in a study looking at differences in the diets of children with and without asthma symptoms. Parents of the cases were interviewed about their children's eating habits before diagnosis. Parents of the controls were also interviewed about their children's eating habits. Eating a high number of desserts appeared to increase risk of developing asthma, while high vegetable intake appeared to be protective.
