Nike is a multinational company that is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, so it is only natural that their business is affected by regional trade agreements. A notable agreement that impacts business for Nike is the TTP, or Trans-Pacific Partnership. Regional agreements are widely regarded as beneficial economically and politically for all nations (Gaspar et al.,2016, pp. 63). Despite this there are many doubts about the effects of regional agreements especially large ones such as the European Union and the North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA. The Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP in particular has allowed Nike to display how regional agreements can be highly controversial. Nike has more recently been affected by the Trans-Pacific Partnership when President Trump decided not to join the TPP during his first term in office due to the fear that the agreement was causing too many American jobs to be outsourced (Bloomberg). This decision to retract is predicted to harm Nike because much of Nikes business is done in Asian and Pacific Asian countries that participate in TPP (Boomberg). Another factor that has caused Nikes operation to diminish is the trade war that President Trump made against China. Nike is a distributor which owns various factories, distribution sites, and over 30,000 retailers worldwide.
