In an experiment, a mixture of 30 grams of sand, 30 grams of salt, and 40 grams of chalk were separated by physical means. Each item was weighed after separation to determine if 100% of each was recoverable.

A student weighed the sand (which was wet) and it was determined to be 45 grams. He noted that all 30 grams of sand was recovered in his notebook and the rest of the weight was water. Therefore, the sand was 100% recoverable. He was in a rush and had to leave for work.

Lake Houston is a major water reservoir that is controlled by dams for community use in the Houston area. Lake Houston has neighborhoods that surround its banks and is also a recreational place of leisure. In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey struck Houston which caused mass flooding and housing damage along Lake Houston; a graph of the water levels is shown below as a reference. On March 23, 2022, major thunderstorms were expected to come to Houston that could impact Lake Houston. The water levels of Lake Houston in March are also shown below.
