The lake, which has no inflow or outflow, is home to approximately three species of tilapia (identified by their physical characteristics). One of these species, Ocreochromis hunter, is unique to this lake and is classified as critically endangered by the IUCN. Around 40 years ago, two other tilapiine fish species, Oreochromis korogwe and Coptodon rendalli, were introduced to the lake. There are concerns that these introductions may have affected the fish population in the lake by competing for food, interbreeding, and thereby reducing the native genetic diversity and producing hybrids. Since there have been no prior genetic studies on these fish, describe how you would accurately determine their taxonomy and diversity using molecular techniques.
