1. You will design an early childhood classroom that is developmentally appropriate, considers various needs, health and safety of the children. Use your text and course content to plan and design the layout. It needs to show all furniture, types of flooring, and architectural elements. Everything must be labeled. Create the layout on the computer. It must be neat and professional in appearance. Note * you can go to the Kaplan early learning website, then look under resources, there is a floor planner in there, you can use it for free.
In your classroom design layout you must include the following areas:
Literacy Area (reading, writing, & listening)
Block Area
Dramatic Play/ House Area
Art Area
Science/ Discovery Area
Sensory (Sand & Water) Area
Math Manipulative (Table Toys) Area
Music and Movement Area
Quiet /Calm Down Area
2. Furniture and Storage: Create a list of all furniture and storage that should be in each of your interest areas. Choose three of the main pieces of furniture and/or storage for each interest area. Include a brief statement for each of those three items specifying why you chose that one in particular. Include a photo, description, and source where each item was found.
3. Materials: Create a list of materials you would add to each learning center. For three of the items, include a photo, description, and source where each item was found. State why you chose those particular items, how they meet curriculum objectives (KDI's), and why they are developmentally appropriate. Each of the three items need to be described in a minimum of five sentences and not more than ten. Use your text as a guide.
4. Write a rationale describing how your Classroom design is developmentally appropriate for the preschool classroom. Describe how you have considered various needs such as social/emotional, language, physical, and cultural. Include how you have taken into consideration the health and safety of the children. Use and cite NAEYC's DAP. This should be no less than 100 words and not more than 300.
5. Place everything together in one document as a PowerPoint. The completed document must be neat, uncluttered, and professional-looking. Images need to be large enough to see.
