Correcting Run-Ons and Comma Splices A run-on incorrectly runs together two complete ideas without using a coordinating conjunction (The acronym FANBOYS can help you remember the coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) or appropriate punctuation. A comma splice incorrectly joins two complete ideas with a comma but with no coordinating conjunction. An example of a comma splice is "The office closes at noon, today is a holiday," and an example of a run-on is 'The office closes noon today is a holiday.'
