Question: A 1 5 0 m m thick continuous slab is carried on T - beams. The overal depth of the beam is 5 0 0

A 150mm thick continuous slab is carried on T-beams. The
overal depth of the beam is 500mm, and the breadth of the
web is 300mm. The beams are 5m span and are simply
supported (Figure 4). The design data is given in Table 1.
(You may need to refer to the appendices)
Determine the utimate design moments and shear forces for
the beam shown in the figure, using the following information.
A uniformly distributed load from sel-weight of the slab and
beam is 24kNm. Allowance for finishes on the slab can be
taken as 6kNm. A uniformly distributed variable load on the
slab should be taken as 16kNm.
Determine the necessary flexural reinforcement to withstand
the maximum developed bending moment. Assume the
diameter of main reinforcenent bars is 25mm and stirrups
12mm.
Determine the necessary shear reinforcement to withstand the
applied loasis. Assume uniform distribution of reinforcement.
Calculate the minimum shear links required and the spacing
between the links.
Provide neat sketches showing the reinforcenent details in a
cross - section and along the length of the beam. Marks will be
given for the clear sketches of reinforcement arrangements in
cross-section and along the length.
