A gradient in concentration is required for diffusive mass transfer to occur. Both the gas and the liquid diffusion experiments assume a concentration gradient during the course of the experiments. Describe the manner in which gradients are generated in each experiment and justify the assumption that the gradients are approximately constant. Include all relevant equations. The results for the salt diffusion experiment are listed in Table 1.
