A macro is an Excel feature. It is a term for a series of commands and functions that are stored in a Microsoft Visual Basic module and can be run whenever you need to perform the task associated with those commands. Macros help businesses/professionals in primarily resolving three issues 1) Handling repetitive tasks 2) Reducing human error 3) Avoiding awkward navigation. The idea of the project is to help students experience use of macros in business settings.

Case Study and Project Charter: Each group is responsible to identify a small business they are familiar with (it could be anonymous/fictitious business) and use macros to solve its problems or improve business processes. In the Case Study and Project Charter the

group will provide relevant details about the business and identify potential business processes, which they will improve using macros.

Macro Project (8%) and Video Presentation (7%): The groups will then use Excel macros to improve business processes efficiencies and/or solve some business problems. Ideally, each group will be creating an information system using MS Excel macros to help a (fictitious/anonymous) business chosen. Some examples of previous projects will be discussed in class. The groups will also record a short (less than five minutes) video presentation that demonstrates the use of this macro. The presentation will be played in the class in the last week.

Macros and the video must be submitted electronically to the designated Blackboard assignment folder as per information provided in the class. Only one submission is required from each group though it must include the following three files: an MS Word document that lists the code for your macro in its entirety, an MS Excel file that includes a functioning version of your macro, and a video file that encapsulates your macro demonstration.
