A Strategy Map takes the concept of. the Balanced Scorecard (Kaplan & Norton) further. It turns setting targets and reporting into an integrated roadmap for a company.
Your challenge is to create and explain a Strategy Map for McDonalds Corporation (the company as a whole). You can get their financial data from the EDGAR database at sec.gov. Use the 10-K: in addition to the financial statements you'll want the Management Discussion and Analysis. Looking back over 5 years would allow you to horizontally analyse what's happening in the company.
Now, build the Strategy Map. What financial targets, market targets, process targets, and learning/organizational development targets would you set? Where would you expect to see the results?
