The letter complained about the management style of the hotel, and accused the department head of unsupportive and unfair practices towards their employees. You as the supervisor decided to facilitate team intervention and conflict management. You are charged with clarifying the issues, identifying the letter-writers, and proving any innocence or guilt. In short, you need to get a handle on the truth. After identifying the core issues - real and perceived - you need to resolve the issues, fuse the group together as a team, and re-establish the bond of trust that is so vital in any team. To this end, you interviewed each team member individually and provided one-on-one communication coaching. You facilitated multiple conflict management and communication workshops, and mediated several private meetings with the team members and the two employees who confessed to writing the anonymous letter. You want the final results to be for all employees: to talk openly about this and other issues, and the team to be stronger and remain intact, and no one lose their job. You also seek to have the leader's reputation to be affirmed. All employees should come away with improved communication skills and more transparency with each other, helping to ensure such a destructive situation doesn't occur again. 1) What about this situation is most troubling to you? 2) Do you think this conflict is related to work roles, or is there a personal element involved? Why? 3) Do you think trying to look at the situation from the employees' point of view would be helpful? 4) What other ideas do you have that may help the situation and help the team members form a strong, trusting, and supporting bond?
