QUESTION 1 Construction industries have accomplished extensive growth worldwide particularly in past few decades. To be successful construction project, safety of the structures as well as for the personnel is an utmost importance and the compliance of the safety always come first at every construction projects. The safety issues are to be considered right from the design stage till the completion and handing over of the structure to the owner. Construction industry employs skilled and unskilled laborers and it is subject to construction site accidents and health risks. A proper coordination between contractors, clients, and workforce is needed to align safe work conditions. Workplace accidents can be prevented if employers and employees more sensitive or has a good safety management practices. It is stated that every employer shall establish a safety and health at the place of work if there are forty or more persons employed at the place of work and establish a safety committee at workplace. Safety management practices is the subject that always discuss after any of incident, accident and fatality. Previous studies stressed that negligence of construction workers are the critical reason of construction accident. There are numbers of negligence by construction workers although the policy was gazette and enforced; e.g. not using personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmet, goggle, safety harness, and others. Therefore, it can be summarized that the level of compliance by most of contractors in is proved to be unsatisfactory. A related literature, stated that the major problem related to the safety issue at construction sites is the attitude of the workers particularly and most research showed positive findings. It is found that most of the workers did not wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) properly due to ignorance, negligence, carelessness and over-confidence. In addition, a related study on safety management practices also found that other determinants factor includes safety behavior and organization commitment and showed positive findings. Therefore, human attitudes and behaviors can be shaped by a systematically designed safety culture to reduce safety errors and violations in high-risk organizations. Several gap was identified by previous studies that safety motivation will intervened and mediates most of the safety management practices model. Most of study on safety management practices focused on many field such as healthcare facilities, nurses, petrochemical industry, construction industry, pathology laboratories employee, petrochemical industry, dog handlers, small medium enterprise (SME), army, ship builders and etc. Enhancing momentum of the safety compliance, relevant gaps are based on the previous research and compliance towards safety management practices using Work Safety Scale. It is proposed that this study involve 40 major local and foreign contractor registered with Abu Dhabi authority and the unit of analysis is all level of managerial function that involve directly with the construction project.
