ACST is a software and app developer which specialises in providing support technologies to multi-
store businesses in the food industry, in particular caf chains and franchise takeaway food venues
(e.g., sandwich or kebab shops, pre-made Oriental takeaways, etc.), that service daytime customers,
in particular during lunch hours. ACSTs customers distinguish between front of house operations
and kitchen operations. Front of house operations involve selling items that are prepared in advance
(normally the morning of sale) and placed on display for customers to select when coming into the
business. If a particular item is not on display, it is not available. Due to the busy nature of lunchtime
and cooking items to order, display items are not restocked during the day.
Kitchen operations involve preparing items which are cooked-to-order and take longer to prepare
(note: for the purposes of this assignment, you can assume kitchen production has no issues). As
kitchen operations focus on fresh(or perishable) food, the businesses expense the purchase of these
items (and ingredients if prepared) to Cost of Sales on purchase.
ACST has recently developed a new mobile phone app which enables customers (of multi-store caf
chains and takeaway food venues) to pre-order items to be collected at a particular time. ACST plans
to sell customized versions of the app to multi-store caf chains and takeaway food venues so that
these businesses can promote the app to their customers to help increase sales. The aim of the app is
to provide the right items to the right customer at the right time.
ACST has developed a series of flowcharts outlining how the proposed app-supported sales process
will work for its customers and is looking for your feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of the
sales process. Importantly, ACST would like to know what changes should be made before marketing
the app to their customers (i.e., the multi-store caf chains and takeaway food venues). The flowcharts
reflect the sales processes used by all ACSTs business customers.
To help track the success of this new app ACST wants their customers to establish a separate sales
order data store for mobile sales to track app-supported revenue (i.e., in addition to the normal sales
data store). Each data store should record order number, items sold, and total value of the sale.
Your team has been supplied with the following documentation to conduct your analysis:
Flowchart 1(F1) Ordering via App
Flowchart 2(F2) App Interaction with Food Venue
Flowchart 3(F3) Customer at Food Venue Part I
Flowchart 4(F4) Customer at Food Venue Part II
Your team will assess the strengths and weaknesses of the sales process proposed by ACST. Based on
this assessment you will make recommendations for changes that could be made to the proposed
process and identify how to measure the impact of those recommended changes. Your evaluation of
the process will be based on both the operational goals of ACSTs customers(i.e., the businesses)
process and related information quality goals.
