SECTION A. [25 MARKS} Read the following passage and answer the question. ifthere's one word that is a cause of concern around supply chains. it's risk. The supply chain disruptions have been a wake-up call for many. either illuminating gaps we were unaware of. or making very clear which issues we have been putting on hold. It is clear that we now have to deal with this risk head-on. as the COVlD-19 crisis has shown that the leanness and efficiency we had reached in many supply chains have made many such supply chains too brittle. in a wide variety of cases. the savings achieved from the approach of ieanness and efficiency are overshadowed by the loss caused by disruption. These breakdowns in supply chains are going to become more common. not less. meaning that although we will retum to some sort of baseline and will continue to produce in a globalised system. we will all have to give greater accountability to the risks. Question: Many risks impact supply chains. from the growing challenge of climate change. cyberattacks. natural disasters. changes in trade conditions. conict and political instability and another possible pandemic. The risks are numerous and several of these categories are either increasing in frequency or severity. Provide an example of ONE [1} risk in supply chains and explain how this risk can be mitigated by supply chain managers. (25 Marks)
