Although the word "criticize," has a largely negative connotation, a fair assessment of any text, object, place or experience deeply analyzes all component parts and renders judgment. The reader (Instructor) needs to understand how and why you arrived at your conclusion, and a thorough critique provides them with an understanding of the critic's (your) values.

Instructions:

 Students will be required to obtain one (1) article relating to a topic within Criminology.

Format:

 The first paragraph will consist of your summary of the article selected.  Underline the main or central argument. Your summary is necessary to provide a little background of the theory/theories within the article.

1. Analysis - this is the most important part of your assignment, where you need to think critically. When assessing the author's argument, you must think about the following:

Is the argument clear and easy to understand?

Does the author support his/her opinions with clear explanation and does the author use appropriate evidence?

1. Opinion - this is the conclusion of your assignment, where you should include the following:

Restate the author's position.

State if you agree or object with his/her position, and state why.

If you disagree with the author's position, what would you propose to improve it?

1. Bibliography - list your source, that include a full title of the article author's name, where and when was the article published. If you accessed the articled on line, make sure to provide a copy of the link and date you retrieved it.
