As a manager, it is important to learn the different personalities of your team. Each employee is different and what works for one employee may not work for the next. I supervise a group of fifteen employees. The majority of my team works part-time hours. They want to log in do their work and log off. They hate weekly team meetings and would rather information be sent via email. My full-time employees are seeking advancement. They want to move up within the company so they reach out for additional tasks or opportunities to give them exposure. I can guide them and provide feedback to help them develop. Encouraging them to join different business resource groups, meet with a mentor, or take a training course. It's a little more challenging with the part-time group. I also encourage them to take the time to update their skills by taking a course, obtaining a mentor, and joining a business resource group. They're not interested in the additional programs. However, I encourage them to take the time to invest in themselves. If the training may make them a prime employee or candidate, why not take advantage of it? The company is willing to invest
