As discussed in this weeks lecture, the differences in cultural communication and professional expectations in an interview setting are considerable. In this assignment, students will gain a first-hand experience in interviewing and being interviewed for an international job.
Instructions:
- Find a partner. If possible, partner with a student who is of a different nationality than you are. For example, the ideal team for this assignment would be an international student partnered with a domestic student. Finding a partner is your responsibility - reach out via email, class chats, or use the Blackboard Discussion thread "Cross Cultural Interview" to seek a partner. Note: Seeing as there is an unbalanced ratio of international/domestic students in our class, it is not a requirement, however please do your best in order to get the most out of this assignment. Youll learn a lot more from one another!
- Select a posting. Search and select an international posting that you would consider applying for.
- Advise your partner of selected posting. Let your partner know which posting youve selected so that they can prepare the appropriate questions to ask you.
- Prepare questions. Once your partner has shared their chosen posting with you, prepare 3 - 4 questions related to the job that involve cultural preparedness, CQ, cross cultural work practices and customs.
- Interview your partner. Schedule a time to complete the interview taking turns being the interviewer and the candidate.
- Reflect. Based on your experience interviewing as a candidate for a position, please complete a the discussion points below.
- Include a .pdf or .doc copy of the job posting you selected.
