Assignment Overview

Pivot tables are a valuable data summarization and analysis tool. Pivot tables allow you to easily aggregate

multiple rows of data $($e$.$g$.,$ corresponding to a product$)$ and calculate summary statistics $($e$.$g$.,$ sales totals,

counts of orders, or maximum order value$).$ This in turn serves as the foundation of data analyses and decision$-$

making $($e$.$g$.,$ to find out which are the growing or better performing market segments$).$ Before we can analyze

the data, we need to prepare it$.$ This is because real world data often requires pre$-$processing or $$cleaning$$

before it can be satisfactorily used. Therefore, this assignment covers both data pre$-$processing and pivot tables.

Many of the Excel functions you work with will be useful in a variety of contexts.

Note: this is an individual assignment. Although you may brainstorm ideas with other students, each student

must turn in their own individual work.

Case background

You are looking to do a test marketing of your new and innovative Business in Tucson Arizona. You are thinking

about print and internet marketing approaches. However, before you begin your marketing, you think you

should have a better sense of the target population.

Process

You have a Spreadsheet, titled yourNetID$\_$A$2\_$TucsonData.xlsx$,$ with a sample of people from Tucson Arizona

$($Note: this is a real marketing Database of people living in specific Tucson zip codes; and so some noise has been

added to the data, e$.$g$.,$ names and street addresses have been randomized for privacy$).$ You will undertake

some data preparation steps and use pivot tables to answer some basic questions about Tucson.

Core Items to Consider

Spreadsheet: You must use the MS Excel spreadsheet from D$2$L $($titled yourNetID$\_$A$2\_$TucsonData.xlsx$)$ to

prepare your submission. Create your pivot tables on separate worksheets, one worksheet per question. Within

a worksheet, you may have as many pivot tables for the tasks, as you deem necessary.
