As you learn more about statistics, you will develop a more critical lens when it comes to evaluating the statistics we hear in our daily lives, such as in advertising. Depending on how a statistic is reported, it can be misleading. Take this example: Our product kills up to 50% of germs. At first glance, it might seem as though the product kills half of all germs. However, if it kills up to 50%, then that could include lower numbers too, like 4%. 1. For your initial post, consider the following statements and how they can be misleading. Choose one statement and describe how it can be misleading in your post. Include the statement that you are analyzing at the top of your post. "42% of women expect to have the door opened for them when entering a building." "90% of dentists recommend AquaWash mouthwash." "The average company employee wage here is $112,000." "COVID cases in Berlin are jumping 130%." "The quantity of cats available to adopt at the local shelter has decreased 80%." Reply to at least two classmates' initial posts. Choose classmates who evaluated statements different from the one you chose and different from one another. In your replies, comment on your classmate's reasoning for the statement being potentially misleading. Give another reason that each statement could be potentially misleading, or give another example of a statistic that is similarly misleading. (You can make this up; it need not be a real statistic.)
