BACKGROUND: A college's online student community is facing two challenges: motivation and engagement. It is challenging to be a student but unfortunately even more challenging for online students as they often lack engagement and face$-$to$-$face opportunities with their fellow students and instructors. The good news is that when a problem is identified, it is here where strategies can be proposed to help correct these problems. The results from the survey and focus groups specifically indicated that online students would like to see an increase in interaction with their fellow students and instructors, an increase in course offerings and improvements with technological support.As such, proposed strategies are as follows: the implementation of a course monitoring program, expanding NAIT$$s current course curriculum offerings and to increase technology and IT services.
