Patients seeking therapy for depression were randomly assigned to either the Treatment (twice-weekly therapy sessions) of the Control (no treatment) conditions. After months their depression scores were computed. The researcher's hypothesis was that the treatment would lower depression scores, so those in the Treatment group were expected to have lower depression scores than those in the Control group.
