This assignment helps students to understand the awareness of an effective layout can help an organisation achieve a strategy that supports differentiation, low cost or response. The relevant readings includes in Lecture on "Facility and Layout Decisions" or any other sources of information can be used in this assignment. Students are encouraged to provide evidence of their findings with supporting pictures and indicating the sources of the selected findings. Anticipated Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this assignment, students should be able to: 1. Discuss critically issues pertaining to organisation layout. 2. Assess the appropriate operational layout that can serve the customers/clients effectively with minimum cost and enhancement of safety issues. 3. Evaluate the importance of layout of an organisation. Prepare a business report on layout decisions covering the following objectives: (1) Utilisation of space, equipment and people Discussion on the outlet space, (eg: sf, availability of space in the outlet identify) Discussion on the equipment (specify what types of equipment required) Discussion on people (man power for the outlet, # of people, types of man power) (2) Flow of information and material Discussion on the flow of information materials (eg: series of operation on the outlet) (3) Safer working conditions Discussion on the criteria for safe working conditions. (4) Customer client interaction Discussion on the interaction (either F2F or virtual by example) (5) Servicescapes Discussion on the criteria in the outlet (eg: music, temperature, colour combination, arrangement of table and chair (equipment) etc... (6) Others (which your group deemed necessary) (7) Opinion on the good objective of the observed layout. No right or wrong for the layout, but need to be critically address and discuss. Your group should also try to minimise the cost of the layout. Note: The retailer set-up and/or service or food & beverages layout must be unique. You are not allowed to use a franchise business.
