Assignment Description Students will need to begin this assignment with a business idea to which they are going to research the market on this assignment. This idea will be further developed later in the term with further assignments culminating in a business plan. Students will be responsible to do secondary research. Although if students have access to their market segment (say through their place of employment) primary research can help to make a stronger analysis. Group Information The professor will assign groups of 4 persons or less Assignment Requirements Chapter 4 of the text will be invaluable in competition this assignment. Students may structure their formal report as follows: Description of the business idea. Description of the industry (as defined in chapter 4) including where the industry is in the industry life cycle (figure 4.1) A description of where in the value chain their business idea would fit (figure 4.2) A description of how attractive the industry their business would enter is according the Porter's 5 Forces. A description of the first customer segment (demographic, psychographic characteristics) (and other items on Table 4.1) Are there any gatekeepers, influences, deciders or users who need to be considered? As in table 4.2, please define 2 or 3 customer segments A description of competitors both direct and indirect, are their any emerging or potential competitors?
