Heat Diffusion Problem
Problem: A new oil play showed a high potential of OOIP. Unfortunately the oil in place is considered as high viscous oil and cannot be produced by conventional methods. As a result, steam injection is considered as a viable solution to reduce viscosity. For the beginning a highly simplified model should depict the potential to reduce viscosity. The reservoir and oil properties are given in the table.
Assumptions: Since only one well is drilled in the field and no seismic studies exist for the location, the first assumption made to reduce the problems complexity is that the reservoir can be assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic. Furthermore no faults are assumed to be in the near wellbore region that makes the problem to a perfectly radial system as shown by the figure. For the beginning the steam propagation and the corresponding heat propagation should be neglected. Instead of researching the heat propagation by a forced convection, only the heat conduction applied on the wellbore wall should be investigated.
