Case 3- Interview questions
A new nurse manager, Ms. Wright, is interviewing nurses for 4 open positions for which there are 10 applicants. On her interview form, she writes brief descriptions about the applicants to help her to recall the candidates after the interview, and these descriptions include their clothing, visible tattoos and piercings, neatness of their hair, cleanliness of their nailbeds, whether the males have a day's beard growth, race, ethnicity-appearance, age, and apparent physical strength. During interview, she asks about their childcare requirements and transportation.
When she selects the candidates for the four positions, she selects only the applicants in her own age range around the age of 30 because she believes that she could relate better to them. She rejected the older applicants because her experience is that the older nurses for whom she worked with in the past were very slow, and had many health problems and physical limitations.
