CASE ONE : TRAINING FOR ONLINE TEACHING
Prof. Kamilia recently became the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at UNIMAT, a large private university in Perak. The faculty has 34 academicians and 4 operational staff and is the largest faculty in UNIMAT. Many of the lecturers in the faculty have served the university since 2000.
With the economic uncertainty that results from the pandemic and changes in regulations by the Malaysian government, the university is facing a tough time to compete with other universities in the country. The management knows that to survive they cannot reduce the fees that they charged to the students any lower, so the management must decide on a way to sustain the business. The management decides that the university will concentrate on delivering the best students experience and focus on the working adult market as their best strategy.
Prof. Kamilias responsibility as the Dean of the biggest faculty in the university is to train all lecturers in students engagement methods and andragogy or the principles of teaching adult learners. She was given a budget of RM50,000 and a timeline of 2 months to complete the training. If the training is successful, the university will implement the training to the other five faculties in UNIMAT.
Prof. Kamilia and her team of faculty management consulted with the HR department and asked them to propose a training program to fulfil the managements requirement.
Required:
1. Design a training program for the 34 lecturers to go through.
2. In designing the training program, you may choose to focus on only one or two modules based on the case above (modules refer to training modules for example: - students engagement techniques, delivery of online lectures, teaching adult students etc)
a. In designing the training program use the knowledge and skills that you acquire from the chapter on Program Design (Chapter 5 in the textbook given)
b. Refer to Table 5.5, Table 5.6, and Table 5. 7 in the textbook as a guide on how to design a training program. The training should have all the essential components of an effective training program.
