CASE STUDY: A famous theme & roller coaster park called Six Flags is one of the most popular attractions in the USA. With more than 3 branches across the US, Six Flags became a very famous for family visit, especially on the weekends. On average, the profits from weekend sales generate nearly 80% of the monthly turnover. The majority of visitors were looking for adrenaline and therefore two main roller coasters were the main reason, people visited this attraction heaven. According to the research conducted by the marketing team of Six Flags, every 3rd person bought the tickets just to enjoy these two rides. Two rides only generated nearly 60% of the turnover. That is huge! This trend shows how dependent this business is on the weekends and holidays.

Today we will discuss, analyze and share out thoughts on a real life case study about Six Flags company. On 18th of August (Friday) year 2006, evening time around 10pm, when the park was getting the final preparations for the weekend, Chief engineer Mr. Sam Daniels has informed the park Director Mr. Danny Monnings about a disastrous failure in the engine of the two main roller coasters. The problem was in a small tiny screw, which was broken and costed as much as 15$. Despite on the late hour, it was immediately decided to call the servicing company (Chicago Industries Inc), which was selling parts and servicing Six Flags during the last 3 years. Mr. Monnings picked up the phone at 11pm and called the COO of the company Mr. Hank Johnson. He communicate with Mr. Johnson about the failure and informed him that if the rides dont work in a few hours, they will not be able to open the park for the entire weekend, which means a loss of 20% profits, which were estimated at $500K loss in turnover. That means every hour of being non-functional, park loses $21K on the weekend.
