Case Study Module $4$ Update: Relaxing Travel $($continued$)$

So$,$ now you have an idea of the project and what$$s involved, you need to decide the resources needed to successfully complete the project on time and under budget. You already have the human resources in place:

Equipment Moving and Placement Specialists, Wyatt and Dylan

A couple of these people are relatively new, and the group has not worked together as a team before. How will you deal with the dynamics of working with such a group. Additionally, it$$s important to keep in mind that your team will be working with four owners with varying mindsets about this project, and six employees whom you$$ve yet to meet, but will be working in their homes.

Beyond human resources, what other resources are needed? In order to answer this, you need to look closely at the requirements. You$$re closing an office, and moving six employees into home offices. What equipment from the old office needs to be disposed of$?$ What will be kept? How will that be done? What new equipment needs to be purchased? How much will that cost? How will the new equipment be delivered to the employees$$ homes? What will be needed at the home offices? Obviously a strong Internet connection. But what about electrical outlets? Wireless routers? Cabling?

Once you recognize the resources involved, you will need to determine the cost of the entire project, and make sure you can complete it within the confines of the stated budget of $$50,000.$ Keep in mind your payroll. Your project team includes five people:

Project manager $(1)$ You

IT Networking Professionals $(2)$ Jameer and Felicia

Equipment Moving and Placement Specialists $(2)$ Wyatt and Dylan

As Project Manager, you are paid $$70$ per hour. Your networking professionals each make $$40$ per hour. And your equipment moving and placement specialists each make $$30$ per hour. You will be working $40$ hours per week for four weeks on this project. Your Networking Professionals will be working $30$ hours per week for four weeks. And your Moving Specialists will be working $20$ hours per week for four weeks.

Additionally, you will have to figure in other costs, including, but not limited to:

New equipment for the six remote employees $($laptops$,$ printers, etc.$)$

Possible software costs $($for example Office $365,$ Antivirus software, etc.$)$

Possible updated Internet connections

Possible adjustments to the six spaces designated as home offices

Costs for disposing of old equipment

Moving costs

Other costs Even on a relatively small team such as this, group and personal interactions are essential to meet project goals, timelines, and even budgets. According to our text, $$Working with other people involves dealing with them both logically and emotionally... Leaders need to understand and value their emotions to appropriately respond to the client, project team, and project environment$($Watt$,$ p$.112).$ One of the tools that every Project Manager should possess is an understanding of Emotional Intelligence and how to apply it$.$ Research this and write a one$-$page overview discussing Emotional Intelligence. You have several tasks associated with this project that you need to keep track of$.$ Using the RACI chart template Download RACI chart templatein the Files section, list each of these known tasks, and designate who is responsible for each with an R$,$ who is accountable for each with an A $,$ who is to be consulted on each with a C$,$ and who is to be informed about each with an I. For example, the Project Manager should be informed $($I$)$ about each. The moving of the new equipment should be the responsibility $($R$)$ of the Moving and Placement Specialists as should the placement of the equipment. Possibly the Networking Professionals should be consulted $($C$)$ about the placement. Be sure to list at least seven $(7)$ tasks.

You need to keep track of the costs for both your team, and other project resources. Complete the Resource Histogram for People template Download Resource Histogram for People templatein the Files Section to measure the cost to the project for your team $($be sure to include everyone including yourself$).$

You need to list the total cost of the project so far. Return to the Work Breakdown Structure you completed in Week $3.$ Add to it any other project requirement categories and sub$-$categories that you have noted when you first completed it$.$
