Chapter 6 talks about Merton's Typology of Deviance. Based on this typology give an example of a behavior associated with each of the types of deviance in the typology. Explain why the behavior does or may occur and what social class is most likely to take part in the given form of deviance.
Merton typology of deviance was based on two criteria:
(1) a person's motivations or adherence to cultural goals;
(2) a person's belief in how to attain her goals. According to Merton, there are five types of deviance based upon these criteria: conformity, innovation, ritualism, retreatism and rebellion.
